Finally! After much adieu we have the long awaited date in place for our film series debut! Passing Strange! Two incredibly talented artists- Stew & Heidi Rodewald- put together the Broadway production of Passing Strange with the help of an extra-ordinary cast and crew. Spike Lee happened upon the scene and the rest is history.
We are lucky enough to have secured permission to share this fine piece of performance art with any and all who wish to join us on Sunday September 4th at 6 pm. While the subject matter of Passing Strange is for mature audiences the message couldn't be more apropos to kick off our fundraising film series for Helping Kids Together "Culture Shock- A Film Series". A youth's tireless search to find who he is keeps leading him back to "the real" on an emotional rock and roll journey full of vividly potrayed characters and turbulent settings.
I saw this film for the first time when it premiered on KETC- Channel 9 in January of 2010 and have been working on making this happen ever since. It goes completely in line with HKT's mission of promoting inclusion, diversity, the arts and the wonderful techincolored coat of culture being worn by the world around us.
I am happy to say a big, gigantic THANK YOU to Heidi Rodewald and Dan Goldberg with IFC Films for their assistance in granting permission to display this work of art for all to see. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I am so excited for people to see this!
Hope to see you there!
